Leviticus 16 describes the Day of Atonement, when the high priest entered the Most Holy Place to make atonement for himself, his household, and Israel. Two goats were chosen: one was sacrificed as a sin offering, while the other was sent into the wilderness bearing the sins of the people. The chapter emphasizes God’s holiness, the seriousness of sin, and the need for cleansing and atonement so that Israel could remain before the Lord.
