The book of Deuteronomy provides a foundation for understanding the rest of Scripture. Its themes of covenant, obedience, rebellion, repentance, and restoration shape the Former Prophets, the Psalms, the Prophets, and the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. Deuteronomy explains God’s faithfulness, the consequences of turning away from Him, and the promise of restoration. When this book is understood, the Bible is seen as one unified story of God’s redemptive plan fulfilled in Christ.
